Started business in October 2005 and has retained 2 full time employees.

The KC and the Keep Well Kids Club® program was created for those who care about children’s health and safety. The program is designed to teach positive health and safety habits in the most entertaining way to children ages 5-9 years by creatively involving, motivating and interacting with them. The author/creator, Joan M. Jacobs, has been a resident of Lake County since 1967. She is a graduate of UCLA in Sociology.

Bursting with imagination, the story of The Lost Island of Keytonia, introduces KC and her friends who teach The Keys to Good Health such as hygiene, nutrition, dental care, the importance of family and friends and recycling, all of which help children become healthy, confident and happy individuals. Our lovable characters are engaging and make health and safety education easy, non-threatening and fun.

This creative three tiered program – the colorfully illustrated books that center on the themes of key children’s issues, our interactive website keytonia.com and a series of creative “edutainment “ kits that reinforce the keys to good health are designed to encourage individual responsibility for optimal physical, mental and social well-being. The goal is to make health care information both educational and entertaining. “Edu-tainment” makes health care fun!

The project has been a journey… the lessons of the struggles so great, the successes so rewarding. Along the way, I have been fortunate to meet and work with some extra-ordinary people. Because of the help and guidance of Ken Freeman of the SBDC, the vision has become a reality. Without exception, every contact with Ken provided resources, contacts, direction, professional advice and, above all, encouragement so needed by an often struggling entrepreneur who never stopped believing. Thank you to all who have contributed.

Dream & believe,

Joan M. Jacobs
